The Iliso Care Society supports a kindergarten, a library, food gardens, a choir, and creative enterprises that empower and nurture disadvantaged women and youth in Khayelitsha, one of the largest townships in the Western Cape.
Iliso means 'eye' in isiXhosa, because, in order to make a difference, you first have to see what needs to be done in your community. Iliso aims to build a caring society that takes action to overcome their challenges. And, above all, to inspire communities to be compassionate and warm towards others.
What Iliso does
“Vivian Zilo is a remarkable woman and community leader. Since the inception of Iliso I have, with the help of friends in Norway, sent considerable sums of money to Iliso. It goes without saying that our ten year long involvement with Iliso Care Society will continue in the coming years.”
“The Iliso Care Society has played an important role in the community of Site C in Khayelitsha through their services such as nutrition, Early Childhood Development, food gardening, their toy library, library and youth programs. Any support for this organization will be of value.”
“God sent Iliso as angels to help our children to get a better education without empty stomachs. We would like to say thank you for everything you have done for us and for our children. We really appreciate it. Well done, keep doing good work, and God bless you and your team.”
